The purpose of this study is to determine and analyze how the influence of internal characteristics, in the form of liquidity variables and profitability, and characteristics of the owners of Coconut Sugar MSMEs, in the form of the level of knowledge of MSME owners and the experience of MSME owners, is expected to be used as a basis for making decisions to fulfill debt in MSMEs. This study used multiple linear regression analysis of panel data. The respondents in this study were 100 coconut sugar MSME owners in Banyumas Regency. The results showed that profitability has a significant positive effect on leverage. Meanwhile, the liquidity variable and the characteristics of coconut sugar MSME owners, namely the owner's level of knowledge and experience, did not affect leverage. When determining MSME owners' capital needs, it is necessary to consider factors that influence debt decisions, namely profitability, a measure of business ability reflected in the level of profit used to repay debt obligations on time. While liquidity, knowledge, and experience do not influence when MSME business owners make financial decisions, they are needed to maintain business continuity.
