Author Guidelines
Penamas: Journal of Community Service is [ISSN 2807-3150] a journal that contains publications on the results of community service activities, models or concepts, and or their implementation in order to increase community participation in development, community empowerment, or implementation of community service. This journal publication aims to disseminate conceptual thoughts or ideas and research results that have been achieved in the field of community service. Penamas specifically focuses on the main problems in the development of the sciences in the field of community service including Education and socio-economics; Education for Sustainable Development; Community Service, Food Security; Training, Marketing, Appropriate Technology, Design; Community Empowerment, Social Access; Community or student community services; As well as other devotion.
Manuscript Categories and Requirements
The journal accepts the following types of manuscripts: Original Articles. All manuscripts submitted must be original, not previously published, and not under consideration elsewhere. Submissions may be written in English or Bahasa Indonesia. Authors whose first language is not English are encouraged to ensure grammar and clarity prior to submission. Manuscripts should be between 2,000 and 6,000 words in length.
Online Submission Instructions
Manuscripts must be submitted via the online submission system at: https://journal.nurscienceinstitute.id/index.php/penamas. Authors must register as an "Author" to begin the five-step submission process. For assistance, contact: journal.penamas@gmail.com.
Step-by-Step Submission Instructions:
- Step 1 – Starting the Submission: Select the appropriate section (Original Article or Literature Review (SLR). Complete the submission checklist and copy-paste your Cover Letter into the “Letter to the Editor” field.
- Step 2 – Uploading the Submission: Upload the manuscript file in .doc or .docx format. Upload supplementary files or letters of declaration here.
- Step 3 – Entering Submission Metadata: Enter the author(s)’ details, indicate the corresponding author, and copy-paste the manuscript title, abstract, and keywords.
- Step 4 – Confirming the Submission: Verify all uploaded files. Click “Finish Submission” to complete the process. A confirmation email will be sent.
- Step 5 – Next Steps: Authors can monitor the status of their submission and editorial decisions by logging in to the journal’s online submission system.
Letter of Declaration
A signed Letter of Declaration must be submitted alongside the manuscript or sent to the editorial team by email. This form is available for download on the journal’s website and should be completed, signed, scanned, and submitted either via the OJS system or directly via email.
Peer Review Process
All manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers. The editorial decision (acceptance, revision, or rejection) is based on the evaluators' assessments. Authors will be notified within three months of submission.
Manuscript Revision
Revised manuscripts must be submitted through the online submission interface within the timeframe specified in the revision notification email. Delayed revisions beyond the stated deadline will be treated as new submissions.
User Rights
Articles are published Open Access under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC BY-SA) license, allowing readers to freely read, download, and distribute content.
Manuscript Structure Submissions must follow this structure:
- Title: The title should be concise and informative to attract potential readers and citations. Remember that readers are the potential authors who will cite your article. Identify the central issue of the paper. Begin with the subject of the paper. The title should be accurate, unambiguous, specific, and complete. Do not contain infrequently-used abbreviations.
- Author(s) and Affiliation (s): Write the Author(s) names without a title and professional positions such as Prof, Dr, etc. Do not abbreviate your last/family name. Always give your First and Last names. Write a clear affiliation of all Authors. Affiliation includes the name of the department or unit, the name of the faculty, the name of the university, and the country of Affiliation. Please indicate the Corresponding Author (include email address) by adding an asterisk (*) in superscript behind the name.
- Abstract (in English and Bahasa Indonesia): An abstract should stand alone, which means that no citations are included in the Abstract. Consider it the advertisement for your article. The Abstract should tell the prospective reader what you did and highlight the key findings. Avoid using technical jargon and uncommon abbreviations. You must be accurate, brief, clear, and specific. Use words that reflect the precise meaning. The Abstract should be precise and honest. Please follow word limitations (150-170 words).
- Keywords: Keywords are the labels of your manuscript and are critical to correct indexing and searching. Therefore, the keywords should represent the content and highlight of your article. Use only those abbreviations that are firmly established in general. Keywords 3–5 terms, and each word/phrase in the keyword should be separated by a comma (,), not a semicolon (;).
- Introduction: In an Introduction, The Introduction should clearly explain the background and urgency of the community service activity. Authors are encouraged to include recent and relevant data (e.g., statistics, survey results, or field observations) to demonstrate the significance of the problem faced by the target community. This section should identify the gap between the current condition and the ideal situation, providing justification for the selection of the location and target beneficiaries. If applicable, a brief review of relevant literature, policies, or previous interventions may be included to reinforce the need for the activity. At the end of the Introduction, authors must explicitly state the objective(s) of the community engagement or development program. The objectives should be specific, measurable, and clearly aligned with the issues presented.
- Community development method: This section must clearly and systematically explain the approach used in planning and implementing the community development activity. Include a description of the intervention or program design, the setting, participants or community partners involved, tools or instruments used, and the implementation procedures. Provide sufficient detail to enable replication.
- Results community development : This section should provide a detailed account of the community engagement activities that were carried out, clearly aligned with the stated objectives and the stages described in the Method section. Each activity should be explained systematically, showing how it contributes to solving the identified problems or meeting the needs of the target community. To enhance clarity and coherence, it is recommended that the discussion be organized into subsections, especially if the program involved multiple stages or types of intervention. Each subsection may include specific outcomes, participant responses, or progress achieved. Authors must also include a section that evaluates the implementation of the activities, identifying aspects that were successful, challenges encountered, and how these were addressed during the program. Reflections on the effectiveness and efficiency of the methods used are encouraged. Importantly, this section should include at least one photo or image that documents the community service activity. The photo should be relevant, captioned, and of high quality to support the narrative description of the results.
- Conclusions: The Conclusion should provide a clear and concise summary of the outcomes of the community service activity in relation to the stated objectives. It must restate the key results, highlight the benefits or impact on the target community, and reflect on the overall effectiveness of the intervention. Avoid repeating detailed descriptions of activities or merely restating the introduction. Instead, emphasize how the program contributes to solving community problems or enhancing community capacity. The conclusion should also provide practical implications, including how the results may be sustained or followed up in the future. Where relevant, authors are encouraged to suggest recommendations or potential directions for future community development programs.
- Acknowledgements (optional): Recognise those who helped in the research, especially funding supporters of your research. Include individuals who have assisted you in your study: Advisors, Financial supporters, or any other supporter, i.e., Proofreaders, Typists, and Suppliers, who may have given materials. Do not acknowledge one of the authors' names.
- References: The references use APA Citation Style. Authors should ensure that the majority of references come from sophisticated, peer-reviewed sources published within the last 10 years. The references are expected to be 80% of the primary sources that originate from national and international journals. Cite the leading scientific publications on which your work is based. Cite only items that you have read. Do not inflate the manuscript with too many references. Avoid excessive self-citations. Avoid excessive citations of publications from the same region. Check each reference against the source (author's name, volume, issue, year, and DOI Number). Please use Reference Manager Applications like Mendeley. All publications cited in the text should be included as a list of references. Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list (and vice versa).
