This study examines the socio-political dynamics and the role of community leaders in preserving local wisdom and religious moderation among the Towani Tolotang community in Amparita, Tellu Limpoe District, Sidenreng Rappang Regency, South Sulawesi. The Amparita community maintains diverse religious traditions, including Towani Tolotang, Benteng Tolotang, and Islam. Socio-political dynamics and religious transformation have the potential to threaten local wisdom and generate conflict and injustice. This study employs an empirical sociological approach using Anthony Giddens’ Structuration Theory and J. Philip Wogaman’s theory of religion-state relations. Data were collected through interviews with religious leaders, traditional leaders, academics, village government officials, and representatives of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Sidenreng Rappang Regency. The findings indicate that the civil rights of the Towani Tolotang community have been fulfilled through synergy between the government and the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Local wisdom continues to be preserved despite social, educational, and religious transformations. Religious tolerance and moderation promoted by religious leaders, traditional leaders, political figures, and government institutions play an important role in maintaining peace and social harmony. Education and awareness of religious moderation have also contributed to reducing stereotypes and discrimination against the Towani Tolotang community. From the perspective of Structuration Theory, social agents play a significant role in fulfilling civil rights, preserving traditions, and maintaining social harmony amid religious transformation and socio-political change.
